If I might amend a comment of Mohler (whom I respect a lot)...
He said not to find your identity in the SBC, but instead find your identity in:
- "your local church ministry" - "planting churches" - "preaching the word" - "sharing the gospel"
I'm sure if he were pressed, he would agree that to say we should actually find our identity in Jesus Christ Himself, from Whom flows all that other stuff.
Mohler followed up on Akin's comment about the benefit of expository preaching by saying that it keeps preachers from avoiding certain passages of Scripture that they would otherwise avoid.
I sure helps, but it still requires integrity in the preacher to not just gloss over certain passages anyway.
I've heard many expository sermons that come across passages on the sovereignty of God in salvation, and they literally pass over them as if they didn't exist -- for example Romans 9:15ff ("...I will have mercy on whom I have mercy....it does not depend on the man who wills...but on God who has mercy....For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, 'For this very purpose I raised you up, to demonstrate My power in you'....so then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires") or John 6:37 ("All that the Father gives me will come to Me...").
Likewise with direct New Covenant passages like Romans 6:14 ("For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace") or Hebrews 8:13 ("When He said 'a new covenant,' He has made the first obsolete....").

Musicianary; Bible teacher/preacher; religious satirist; biblical reformer; Protestant, and evangelical provocateur. After twenty-nine years in CCM, you get introduced in concert in the most odd and yet, memorable ways.
My personal favorite? John MacArthur once introduced me at Grace Community Church as: "Keith Green with theology." Keith was a dear friend of mine... I was very honored. I started in music ministry in 1978 with the release of "Saying It With Love"-my first album. Since then, by God's grace, I have released a total of 18 CDs/albums.

Stetzer gets it. I'm not a part of the SBC, but the heart of Stetzer needs to be more widely embraced throughout Christianity.
Brad
I agree.
Ed's priorities remain fully intact: the glory of Christ Jesus and the proclamation of His gospel.

Huge difference.
By the way, anybody know who made the "horrible misrepresentation" of Calvinism which the moderator apologized for?
Just curious.

Morris Chapman I believe. All of the messages can be heard on the SBC website.

"Morris Chapman..."
Wow. He's the President and CEO of the SBC Executive Committee.
Thanks.
Was it me...or was Mohler tweeting (correct present tense of "tweet"???) during the first panel question? Just curious.....
