GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS
...God's mercies are new every morning

Lamentations 3:21-25
21 But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”

25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.

_____________

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

This hymn and the quote from Lamentations is something I think we need to hear often. How gracious is the Lord .

Anytime a hymn or song of praise can further place our hearts on the Lord and His greatness - it is a joy to sing.

This is one of those hymns!

Whenever I hear this song, my mind always races back to when I was a new Christian, and how whenever I was traveling a long ways, from Dallas to Michigan, or Michigan to New York and back again, I would find myself spontaneously singing this song, and also "How Great Thou Art", especially in the evening. And I would gaze up at the sky and "see the stars" (and sometimes "hear the rolling thunder" !) and the words would fit so beautifully.

On those long trips, I would read my Bible and allow these songs to prepare my heart to see my unsaved loved ones.

At that time, those songs really did give me "strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow" as I have lived to see quite a few loved ones later come to know the Lord.

Steve, Thanks for the reminder...our family is in our greatest valley right now...but His faithfulness is greater still.

Would appreciate your prayers.

That's one of my favorite hymns too. I've sung that in frightening times a lot. God is faithful, even when we don't expect him to be.

Thanks for posting the hymn "Great Is Thy Faithfulness." Today is the 143 anniversary of the birth of the author, Thomas Chisholm. If you'd like to know more about him, check out my blog, Wordwise Hymns. God bless.
