THE BIBLE'S SUPREME PLACE
...the law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide

Great peace have they which love thy law:
and nothing shall offend them. -
Psalm 119:165

Yes, a true love for the great Book will bring us great peace from the great God and be a great protection to us. Let us live constantly in the society of the law of the Lord, and it will breed in our hearts a restfulness such as nothing else can. The Holy Spirit acts as a Comforter through the Word and sheds abroad those benign influences which calm the tempests of the soul.

Nothing is a stumbling block to the man who has the Word of God dwelling in him richly. He takes up his daily cross, and it becomes a delight. For the fiery trial he is prepared and counts it not strange, so as to be utterly cast down by it. He is neither stumbled by prosperity—as so many are—nor crushed by adversity—as others have been—for he lives beyond the changing circumstances of external life. When his Lord puts before him some great mystery of the faith which makes others cry, "This is an hard saying; who can hear it?" the believer accepts it without question; for his intellectual difficulties are overcome by his reverent awe of the law of the Lord, which is to him the supreme authority to which he joyfully bows.

"Lord, work in us this love, this peace, this rest, this day."

I have been reading scripture more and more and I desire to have the immense hunger and love for it.

Thanks for the post.

I wanted to add one more thing. I have been going through an extremely harrowing time of self-examination, really trying to align myself with the LORD and making sure that I'm feeding on scripture every day. A friend of mine actually recommended that I start at Genesis and just keep moving forward.

Last night I woke up at around 5 am and couldn't really get back to sleep and I was praying and the thought - so strong and so clear said READ PSALM 103.

Much of my blog reading lately has been on sin, repentance, and the wrath of a Holy God. I was absolutely dumbfounded how that scripture was brought to mind.

I keep praying to hunger for righteousness and God's word, and to be more obedient.

Rough time for me right now - but I believe this is a time of God disciplining me and working in me as well.

Blessings - Eric.

I've only just discovered your blog (but have for many years been blessed by your music) -- and I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate your posts here.

I recently took a step of obedience to God that He'd been asking me to do for some time, but I'd been ignoring, and it's amazing that from that one step of obedience, my joy in daily tasks returned, my desire and hunger for God's Word returned, a thirst for a passionate love for God and others returned; obedience truly does bring life and blessing!

I long to know Him more and be in His Word more, and for Him to daily renew my mind and revive my heart...and your blog is a great help along the journey! So, thanks for being obedient to what the Lord asks you to write here! :-)

Your sister in Christ,

Sarah R. <><

The Psalms are a great source of encouragement, comfort, counsel and strength for me as well. I run to them, "they are my counselors", as David said.

I will be praying for you. I am also in a season of trial. But the Lord IS faithful... isn't He? He is the rock that is higher than myself when my heart is overwhelmed.

Keep on brother,
Steve

Thanks for your kind and encouraging Sarah and for being a new reader of this blog. Good to have you aboard.

What great hope we have in the Word of God. It is truly living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword. It not only unmasks us; but it conforms us to Christ.

Like Jeremiah of old, "I ate His Word and it became the joy and rejoicing of my heart." Or as Job said, "I have treasured Your Word above my earthly food." Or as David said, "Your Word is sweeter than honey and the honey comb; more desirable than gold, than much fine gold."

Oh how I love His Word!

Eric, I am sorry I did not read this earlier. I know what you are going through and it is tough. Look at Genesis 39 and what Joseph went through for righteosness. What a great example to all of us in these times!
Be content in God alone and want more than any thing to please Him! I must admit that I too fail badly at this. Our christian life is a marathon not a sprint! Never give up through His strength!
