Audio: Voinovich Humiliates Himself in Shamnesty Debate with Hannity

Link: sevenload.com

I usually don't do politics at COT.

But like many, I was outraged at the lack of political and moral resolve by so many, including our President, concerning illegal immigration as represented in the shamnesty bill that was fortunately defeated last week. I am so grateful and proud of the power of the "new media" (i.e. Rush, Hannity, Ingraham, Levine, Malkin, etc.) that heard from and influenced the hoi polloi to raise their "loud voices" contributing to the defeat of the Shamnesty Bill that President Bush and members of Congress from both parties were trying to pass by stealth against the majority moorings of the American people.

I am a political conservative by conviction; and that is why lately, it has been discouraging to see the Republican Party, including President Bush, acting not with the courage that principled conservativism breeds, but with all the watered-down alacrity of a Ted Kennedy songfest.

One of my favorite commentators is and has been Sean Hannity. Listen to this audio of him sparing with Senator Voinovich.

To quote Allahpundit of HotAIR:

"This clip ought to push those confidence-in-Congress poll numbers into single digits, assuming they’re not there already.

He also appears to have only the vaguest sense of what the Fairness Doctrine is. Rest easy tonight knowing that in these capable hands may rest the fate of the nation’s immigration policy."
Enjoy.

The thing I like about Sean best is he can wrestle with opposing political figures and 'Republicans in name only' and yet not resort to calling those who disagree with him names or lower his standards to yelling. At least, he doesnt sound as if he is 'angry' yelling, but instead comes across as passionate in his message. A few years ago when Congress was up for reelection, he told the Republicans they'd better shape up and start standing with conservative values or they were not going to get reelected. He is an asset to media and I hope many Americans are hannitized as a result of Sean's courageous unwavering voice :>

The men that you say you are proud of in this post, are they Godly men? While it is true these men promote and perhaps even help the conservative american agenda, it does not mean that this is glorifying to God. When un Godly men promote policies that are something that you see as good, it does not mean it is a Godly policy. It just means it is good, or the american way if you like, in the eyes of a particular worldly party. In other words the conservative party is not a Godly party, as a matter of fact it is about as Godless as it can be. Now, I am not saying that there are not Godly people involved in it, 'we are to be in the world but not of it,' I am just saying the vast majority of the policies promoted by the conservative party disregard God altogether. Honestly, I would have to say that when the conservatives invoke the name of God they do it for the same reason as the Liberals and that is as a political tool.
The issue with regards to illegal aliens is a problem for the United States and many people in the United States, it is not a problem for God. As a matter of fact God has turned the hearts of the leaders of this nation and He has allowed this to happen. We as Christians should recognize this. While it is true we should speak up for the upholding of laws that will protect our country from the threat of foreign attack, it is even more true that the body of Christ should minister to the foreigner, above all we should deliver the Gospel to them!
I hear far to many Christians banging the drum for enforcement of laws and very few calling to go to the harvest for the harvest is ripe. Bringing salvation to the imigrant is the best possible thing that we can do, so put down your drum sticks and pick up the word! You have no right to have animosity toward the illegal aliens, it is the sin of this nation that has allowed this to happen and in many ways it is the hand of God's judgement. As a matter of fact there are some very strong parralells between what is happening in the USA and the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire was conquered by a alien force that they had hired to fight their wars, perhaps we will be over run by those we hire to pick our lettuce.
I am by no means a liberal on this issue, but one thing I am is a Christian that is trying to find out what God is doing and what He wants me to do. He is not calling me to beat a drum and he definitely is not calling me to lock arms with the un Godly to promote a worldly agenda! Preach the Gospel in season and out of season, today is the day of salvation.

Immigration is a difficult issue. I live in San Antonio, so it hits close to home because we all know we're talking about one thing - immigrants from Mexico. That's what the immigration debate is really about.

In Mexico, there are two classes - the extremely rich and the dirt poor. I've seen it first hand during a trip to San Miguel de Allende. There are Americans with million dollar houses and full staffs of servants - and the people of the area who live in a plywood city about 10 minutes outside town.

If I lived there, I would try to leave too. I would be seeking something better for myself and my family. I bet you would try to leave too. Think about it - these guys risk their lives to come to this country. They pay thousands of dollars to smugglers who cram them into 18 wheelers or shipping containers. These are desperate people.

For most of our country's life, we've had an open door policy. The inscription on the Statue of Liberty belie the Christian ideals that used to make our land different:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

I don't have all the answers, but to think you can just kick millions of people out of the country or secure a border that is hundreds of miles long is naive and short-sighted.

The illegal immigrants I know are not criminals. They're nannies or construction workers or landscape guys. They work harder than any of us on this board will ever have to.

And guess who gives them jobs? Business owners who are largely conservative Republicans. And they pay them far less than the legal wage. Of course, it's all under the table. The business owner pays a "subcontractor" guy who pays the illegals in cash at the end of the day.

We should consider how Christian values dictate how we should treat these people. As believers, it's not our luxury to be able to ignore people in need. Matthew 25 makes it clear that God deeply cares about how we treat them.

This idea - of welcoming the "least of these" is a Christian one. Sadly, it is no longer a conservative one.
