Is it ok to publicly make known your views (contacting representatives, campaigning for the school board, etc.) only as long as you are not in an assembly of many believers (of course outside a 'service of worship')?

Am I to give my money to Planned Parenthood, trusting God to be sovereign in the distribution of the money within the organization? It seems to me that would be akin to placing an uninformed vote and trusting God to put in place who he chooses. It is possible that God may put into power an evil person because we as a church have grown apathetic to social concern, and voted ignorantly, supplying the earthly means by which God put that person in power. I, for one, am glad I don't have to spend my time researching every public official that has come down the pike, and have been able to rely on men like Dobson and Perkins to flesh out their positions on key issues. I do not think the Bible supports voting your concious unless you have first tested it according to the word of God, and I believe there is a great moral weight placed upon our shoulders in this responsibility called a constituional republic. Did not a recently revived and awakened church protest the movement we now know as the American Revolution? Did not the church decry the very political institution of slavery?

I agree that JS2 is abhorrent- especially being in a church on a Sunday night. As a church, we need to stand for holiness, denouncing sins of the church as well as sins of the government which represents us! We must decry all sins, even if they are currently on the pundit circuit.

I agree with most of Steve's blogs. I am new to this site, and am finding it very thought provoking. But I get the impression that we are trying to much to minimize our role in the political process as a direct response to the extreme on the other side (JS2). Surely he doesn't mean that political stewardship has any less weight than financial stewardship, familial stewardship, and professional stewardship...and I guess that was my concern.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04852203994400117805noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14012689.post-1123736420749368132005-08-11T01:00:00.000-04:002005-08-11T01:00:00.000-04:00ColinM,I asked the same question: see Steve's arti...ColinM,
I asked the same question: see Steve's article "God Directs the Heart of the King" on this blog - See 'previous posts' menu on the right...I think Steve explains it very well.Unchained Slavehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11878050928426060918noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14012689.post-1123732098230714362005-08-10T23:48:00.000-04:002005-08-10T23:48:00.000-04:00I will narrow it to one question, in earnest...Whe...I will narrow it to one question, in earnest...Where does our individual responsibilities as citizens fit into the picture?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04852203994400117805noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14012689.post-1123731718338175072005-08-10T23:41:00.000-04:002005-08-10T23:41:00.000-04:00Part of the big picture is being obscured here. Are they really just in this for the money?"

Let me clarify: I have never said they are thieves and I reject that notion categorically. I also didn't mean fleece in terms of defrauding (financial gain by purposed misrepresentation of the product). I simply meant it in terms of the large amounts of money that they must raise and that it takes to promote and support the ECB agenda--and that without biblical support (1.2 million for JS1; 150k and counting for JS2). I'm not saying they're in it for the money... we can't judge motives here.

But, make no mistake about it, the financial giving goes up substantially when an evangelical leader throws his hat into this political cause. The base expands profoundly and thus the giving increases too.

The issue of fleecing goes to diverting funds from the body of Christ into issues that are not supported biblically and are not based upon the gospel. If the funds were used to biblically educate the body of Christ and spread the gospel of grace to those who were gay, having abortions, etc. - then we have no problem.

Sadly, that is not being done here. The reason that this issue causes me to ache for these dear men, is that they all know better; they all know the gospel profoundly; they all have been in ministry for years; and yet, the fruit of their labor is not for lost souls, but to confront judiciary activism.

Doesn't that burden you too?

May the Lord help us all to keep our focus on that which is eternal, than temporal.

Yours for the Master's use,
Campi
1 Cor. 15:58SJ Camphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15844201288864307481noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14012689.post-1123726268603193512005-08-10T22:11:00.000-04:002005-08-10T22:11:00.000-04:00Unbelievable--just arrived home from prayer meetin...Unbelievable--just arrived home from prayer meeting about 30 minutes ago, and discovered that a pre-recorded message had been left on my answering machine from a call originating in Braddock, VA. The message implored me to skip the Sunday service at my home church, and attend "Justice Sunday" at Two Rivers. (Okay, I paraphrased, but I think I summarized the message's intent). Now how in the world did I end up on their call list?! Give me a break--I think I'm going to have to go back and pray some more!!littlegal_66https://www.blogger.com/profile/09424599483109788899noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14012689.post-1123707903996031052005-08-10T17:05:00.000-04:002005-08-10T17:05:00.000-04:00Brother Camp your fire and heart for God somtimes ...Brother Camp your fire and heart for God somtimes makes me want to weep. Thank God for you brother! My heart is so heavy about this right now; chiefly because I am presently Southern Baptist. Augh! I am so torn right now. How can we the Baptist that stood so opposed to this in history be the first to welcome it with such open arms. Brother I pray this gets Mohlers attention. Why! Why! Why? I sometimes wish I could find a church that is totaly independent from any association with this mess, but I fear there are none in this area. Jeremy and all you fellow SBCers; what shall we do? I am just so disgusted right now about this.

Paul told Timothy that no man that warreth entangle himself with the affairs of this life. How involved are we to become in politics (calling congressmen, talking about issues) as it relates to our responsibilities to elect representatives?

In addition, while preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ at its radical difference from the world, would it be ok to mention abortion?
